Australians in the Battle of Britain. 6 August 1940

At Aston Down, Ken Holland was very excited. Things were looking up in his training program. ‘SPITFIRES!! Rushed to flights and was sent off on a Spitfire and did two hours this day getting the feel thereof.’

John Crossman was so busy converting to Hurricanes that he didn’t open his diary again until 18 August. His weekly letters home reduced to once a fortnight and he only managed one from Sutton Bridge.

At Acklington, Bill Millington had had a break from operational flying since the 3rd. Today, however, he was back in the air as Red and Yellow sections carried out three uneventful convoy patrols.
